About identical and non-identical twins

Twins can be identical and non-identical. Identical or monozygotic twins share the same DNA while non-Identical twins or heterozygotic twins in some rare cases could have a different father. Sometimes appearance doesn’t give you an answer to a question if twins are sharing the same DNA. To learn more about twins visit this page.

Reasons for doing a twin zygosity test

Twin testing is mainly done for curiosity purposes. The parents of the twins or the twins themselves want to sometimes confirm if they are identical or fraternal. Twin DNA analysis can also be done for medical reasons, such as organ donations and blood transfusions; identical twins make far more compatible organ donors for each other and also have the same blood group making them suitable blood-donors for each other.

Collecting your DNA sample using the mouth swabs we provide is simple and painless. Samples are collected using our easy to use DNA testing kit.

A DNA twin zygosity test costs $189 for testing two siblings with an additional cost of $100 per person for each additional sibling tested. Results are normally available within 5-7 Business Days.

Our twin test is based on the analysis of 21 Different Genetic Markers thereby offering a minimum probability in excess of 99.99%.

Note: We can only guarantee standard result turnaround time when testing takes place solely using oral swab samples. Using a discreet sample for your test may lead to an increase in turnaround time.
