A Y Chromosome Test (Y STR Test) is used to determine if males share the same paternal lineage. The cost of a Y chromosome test is $599.

The Y Chromosome is inherited and passed on from father to son; because it has a low mutation rate it remains unchanged from one generation to the next. All males with the same male lineage will have identical Y chromosome patterns.

When Can a Y Chromosome Test be Used?

• In cases where paternity needs to be confirmed but the alleged father is absent. Testing the alleged father's brother/s and comparing their DNA to that of the alleged father's  male child can confirm the biological relationship.
• Siblings (brothers) wishing to find out if they share the same father can do a Y chromosome test. If they have different Y chromosome profiles thay do not share a common paternal line.
• Male cousins can use it to see if their fathers were brothers or to check if they shared a common Grandfather through the paternal line.
• In Immigration cases, the Y-Chromosome test can be used as proof of relationship
• In adoption cases, children searching for their biological or “birth” families can use a Y chromosome test to confirm their relationship to people they believe may be their birth parents.
