Glossary definition for Discreet Samples

Discreet Samples

A discreet sample is simply an alternative sampling method to the ordinary mouth swab. An ordinary saliva sample is a standard sample whilst a discreet sample is sometimes referred to as a non-standard sample.  Commonly used discreet samples might include blood or hair; however, collecting discreet samples is not always simple and straightforward as there may be strict collecting procedures involved. Moreover, using discreet samples may be subject to certain laws depending on the country you live. Different discreet samples offer different success rates. Some offer a higher probability than other for extracting DNA; for example a used Kleenex has a high success rate whilst an envelope a low success rate. If the DNA is successfully extracted, then the testing procedure can proceed as normal and the results will be as accurate as for any other DNA test. Should you wish to read more about the different samples involved and procedures please go to discreet DNA testing.
